Black Hills Wolves Blog Hop!

Welcome to the Black Hills Wolves Blog Hop! I am so excited to be a part of this wonderful series, with such awesome characters. As I've said in the past, writing Omega's Heart was my first attempt at writing shifters. I think what held me back from ever writing them to begin with was the physical change a shifter goes through to become a wolf or whatever beastie they are. Once I realized there was no true way, I dove in and created these three guys who are amazing people and wolves.

Today, I can say I have created more BHWs titles, and will be sharing those with you in the coming months! I can't wait for you to meet my new characters, I think you're going to love them.

But, enough about that for right now.

What I'd really like to talk to you, since we're getting into the fall season, and Halloween is just a few short weeks away, is: What do shifters eat?

The answer seems pretty easy, right? I thought so too, but then I remembered one important fact. Yes, shifters have the same physiology as humans, but they share a physiology with their wolf, or cat or bear.

Bears would be more inclined to eat fish, and berries. Perhaps rice. Their sweet tooth would include anything made with honey or marshmallows. Their sense of smell is off the charts if they can find food five miles away in a locked bucket, inside a house. So, wouldn't they also be able to smell if something was rotten? What if they ate it anyway, would it make their human side sick?

A wolf is the same way. They like protein. Game. Whether its sheep or small animals, beef or chicken. They love it. But, will chocolate make them sick? We can eat it all day, however vets tell us never to feed it to our dogs. In some cases, dogs have died from eating chocolate.

Cats like bears, love fish, and meat of any kind like wolves. They love dairy products like cream and cheese. Is there anything that could make them sick? And if so, would it make their human ill as well? What about catnip? If cats go nuts about it, would it drive their human counterpart insane?

These are the things I think about. Crazy as it might sound. I'm always curious. If you notice, nothing Miss Fern or Miss Claire brings to Kole and Ginger's store contains chocolate. It's pastries or breads or muffins. I did that for a reason. I wanted their confections to stick with the basics, and make sure everyone could enjoy their sweet treats.

So, what do you think? Leave me a comment and you will be entered for a chance to win a copy of Omega's Heart. Also we have a bigger contest going for a chance of winning an:

Permanently scarred after stepping between Colt and the former Alpha of the pack, Tasha survived for years by keeping her head down. 1. Now I am going to be pondering that all day. And what happens if you turn a vegetarian? Will the wolf demand meat or only when you are shifted?

  2. Very good question, Donna. I would assume the wolf's needs would supersede the human needs and you'd become a carnivore while being a wolf. But, I have to wonder, once you get a taste for meat, would the human side of you crave it also? I would think yes, but there again, it's all up to you as the writer. ;)

  3. Wow, interesting thoughts. I could just see a cat shifter in human form coming across a patch of catnip and plopping down and rolling in it. I wonder if a wolf likes to roll in dead stuff and poop like a lot of other dogs do...OMG, I could go on and on...lol
